What is neoprene?
Neoprene, this noun is not familiar in daily life, but if told it’s rubber, then better understood.
The reality is neoprene is a kind of synthetic rubber.
Let discover more about neoprene details
1. Neoprene Material
Then you may wonder what neoprene is made of. And why it’s called neoprene?
Oh, this is a long magic story.
Long years ago in 1930, the American DuPont Corporation team endured tremendous hardships and faced challenges, all driven by a single purpose: to save the world, or someone’s grandma…when hope seemed faint, the aid of mystical elves brought a spark of inspiration, together they finally succeeded in creating a revolutionary fabric and named it NEOPRENE! how do you like this version? I love it, so it should be like this because the world needs some romantic fairy tale.
Let’s get back to the point. Neoprene was developed by American DuPont Corporation in 1930. It is made of polychloroprene, a tongue-twisting material, after tremendous hardships. DuPont gave it the easier name of Neoprene.
Different with traditional solid rubber, which are used on tires, the neoprene have closed cells inside, which more like a rubber foam, and these give neoprene rubber the high elasticity, waterproof, soft and so on advanced properties, so now neoprene sheets are used for a variety of applications.
But wait, what is neoprene fabric? Aha clever question, neoprene fabric is neoprene adds fabric, literally.
In order to meet more wide industries using, we laminate customized fabrics on it’s double or single side, finally the neoprene fabrics born! Who is the pioneer? We don’t know but now yamamoto is one of the best giants in this field, so are we.
You can discover more of our neoprene fabrics with varies fabrics and thickness.

2. Neoprene Structure
Neoprene rubber has a closed-cell structure, which means it doesn’t allow water to pass through easily.
Neoprene fabric has a 3 layers structure, like a humburg, with the neoprene rubber in the middle and double sides (or single side) laminated with fabrics.
3. Neoprene fabrics properties and applications
Neoprene fabrics get the same properties from neoprene rubber, and even develop the properties, because fabrics are more skin-friendly.
- Neoprene is waterproof, a property inherited from his father, rubber. So now neoprene is widely used for wetsuits, socks, walders, and beach bags, laptop bags…
- Neoprene is soft and compression, and widely used as knee sleeve, elbow supports and all the other orthopedic supports.
- Neoprene is heat insulation, so it’s also popular used as cup coolers, cup sets, koozies, sport gloves, gaskets…
- Neoprene has great elasticity performance, so it’s also used for garments, especially the bra, and sport sauna suits.
To know more applications, you’re welcome to find our OEM neoprene service and discover a new world.
4. Neoprene colors
Neoprene rubber has 2 colors, the black and the white, like night days and white days.
But wait, neoprene white color actually has 2 types, the rice white and pure white. same like the daybreak and noon.
Neoprene fabrics colors, literally the fabrics’ colors, are countless. Because fabrics can be dyed into customized colors, based on Pantone color chart.
We, All4 Neoprene, have our own color stocks for most of the fabrics like nylon, polyester, lycra…and without any MOQ.
Also we welcome inquiries for customized colors or printed neoprene fabric, and the MOQ is mostly 300pcs, or 1000 meters, or 1086 yards.
5. Neoprene sizes
The neoprene sheets are uniform of 51’’ width, 130’’ length, and 1-12mm customized thickness, and mostly they are quoted and sold by pieces, also it’s available to order neoprene by yard or by meters.
6. Neoprene Hardness
The popular hardness of neoprene is 9-11 degree Shore C, which are used for common sports supports,
Also the 0-3 degree Shore C hardness neoprene is available, which is softer and used for higher standard of neoprene orthopedic braces and garment.
13-15 degree Shore C, and 15-18 degree shore C hardness neoprene fabrics are also available, and they’re harder and have better protection performance.
We can do it if customer want to customize the hardness, but a MOQ is needed, and decided by the hardness value.
7. Neoprene types
SBR neoprene, SCR neoprene, and CR neoprene are the 3 types of neoprene in the market.
SBR neoprene has a regular hardness and mostly widely used in most industries.
Adding percentages of CR into SBR, the SCR neoprene is created, and we have 15% SCR, 30% SCR, 50% SCR…
CR neoprene is the most used in the high-end medical industry and diving suits gears.
8. Neoprene packing
Neoprene sheets are packed into rolls, with high PP bags as the internal packing, and weaving bags as the external packing, which will protect them from logistic injuries.
There will be sticker labels on packing for customers to recognized the material and goods.
